Peridot is one of the only gemstones that only exists in one colour, whilst Diamond is 1 of the 4 'precious' gemstones.

Peridot is the August birthstone, and is the traditional gift for a 16th wedding anniversary. Diamond is the April birthstone, and is used to mark a 10th and 60th anniversary.

Peridot is one of the oldest gemstones, dating back to the ancient Egyptians, where it was referred to as "Gem of the Sun".
